A new birdie for the nest....

One of the trends of the moment, as predicted by Candy Soirees and My Little Jedi over the past few weeks is grey and yellow.

I came across this post this morning from The Babs Blog which showcases a beautiful baby shower they put on for their sister-in-law. Baby showers are sometimes cheesy and a tad tacky - the same can not be said for this one! It really is so chic and elegant!

The invites were worded "A new little birdie joins the nest", so they carried the theme through to the day with the inclusion of bird cages filled with bright yellow flowers through out the party area. The flowers were a combination of florist designs and ones they picked up from Costco on the morning of the event!
(I love this detail as we are complete suckers for everything Costco and have become regulars since one opened in Melbourne!!)

The table was set with Amy Butler fabric as a table runner, which suits the theme perfectly, along with napkins from Ikea (another love of ours!). The talented girls made the rosettes and little birds and it ties it all together nicely.

Drinks were served with cute and practical parasols to keep the sun off guests as the day warmed up.

I just love the birdie and rosette cup cake toppers that they have used (the cupcakes also look delicious!)

Finally, rather than games for the day, one of the guests had written a story for the new addition and guests were asked to decorate a page each. The girls provided this lovely writing/craft desk for guests to let their creative side shine! The book will then be bound as a keepsake for the new mum and baby. I love this idea, allows the guests to add such a personal touch to the day and will be a beautiful memento.
